ECBF RACE and JUSTICE

In Genesis 1:27 we read that God created ALL PEOPLE in the Likeness and image of God. From its inception, the first church was called to be universal (Acts 1:6-8, 2:17-21, also 8:26-40, 11:19-21, 13:44-49, 28:28). When the Spirit of God fell on those believers who, in obedience, waited for the promise of God, they declared the works of God to people from every nation. That was done with intention by God. Acts 1:6-8: The last words Jesus uttered on earth called for his believers to be his ambassadors in every nation.

OUR PURPOSE
Understanding that reconciliation, equality, and justice are at the heart of the Gospel, this team exists to provide focus and accountability to the ongoing work of racial unity, reconciliation and Justice at ECBF and within our community. The team will partner with the Pastor, Church Leadership, and Commissions as a catalyst to ensure Reconciliation and Justice are kept on the front burner of our church strategy, and embedded in all aspects of the congregation.

To ensure the integrity of the committee we will strive to maintain a gender and racial balance on the committee. Having a person of color and a white person as co-chairs models that racial reconciliation and Justice is not just a person of color's responsibility, but everyone has that responsibility in the Body of Christ.

OUR RESPONSIBILITY
  • Work with Pastor and Church Leadership to ensure that reconciliation is respected and practiced as indicated in the Word of God with members that attend the church, and as practiced by the Covenant Church regionally.
  • Assist the Pastor and Church Leadership in organizing events, trainings, classes, and gatherings that will foster reconciliation and justice among the racial groups that attend the church and in the community.
  • Assist the Leadership Council (our governing body) and Ministry Commissions to embed racial unity into the church by encouraging all members to take part in activities and events that foster racial reconciliation as a congregation.
  • Work to enhance and support racial reconciliation practices and awareness in ECBF leadership and committees.
  • Be bold in looking for ways ECBF - individually and corporately - can leave its comfort zone to establish His kingdom where all persons feel empowered and differences are embraced.
